Full house for Robbie

Sziget hosted a huge crowd of 80 000 on the Robbie Williams day. The day was sold-out by late night. Passes and day tickets for the next days still available.

Robbie Williams kickstarted Sziget 2015 in style with a full house concert. The majority of Szitizens (approx. 75 000 of them) were at the Main Stage area to enjoy the show and sing along the best know songs of the star. There are still available passes and tickets for all other days (including today), so all those who want to be part of the big adventure are more than welcome. Tuesday will see Florence + the Machine, Jungle and Infected Mushroom, among others, at Sziget’s numerous stages and program venues.

Using your smart gadgets the smart way

#sziget2015 - A big festival like Sziget is full of adventures. Of course you want to keep your friends, relatives, maybe even your enemies posted, so here’s a shortlist to make sure you’re fully prepared!

1. Keeping those batteries charged: luckily Sziget has more options for this, powerbank is probably the best solution if we’re talking about smartphones. You can get it on spot or even in our webshop, one charge costs approx. 2 EUR.
2. Finding wifi hotspots: Sziget is huge and for now it’s impossible to have a wifi network on the whole island. But there are hotspots mainly at the upgrade campsites and also on a few other locations, so keep an eye open for these.
3. Data-roaming: If you want to go for a backup option (since wifi hotspots can easily be overcrowded), simply check your mobile company’s roaming offers, as all of them will probably have some mobile data roaming packages. If you check the price difference between normal data-roaming and a pre-purchased data-roaming package, you will probably see the latter makes a lot of sense indeed.
4. The right content: all we advise is to have an open eye on the island to really catch the important moments. There are many places in the world where you can listen to good music and also many festivals with beers and stuff, but we like to think Sziget is different. Help us showing this magic to the people who stayed home.
5. The band plays on the stage, not on the LED wall: just make sure you don’t overdo with technology and also enjoy reality… as a true Szitizen should :)

Talking about beers and general costs of living at Sziget: this is a nice place with nice prices:)

Discounted tickets until 31st July!

Discounted Sziget Festival tickets are only available till 31 July. This year’s Island of Freedom is selling as fast as last year when it broke all previous records and ended up sold-out, so it makes a lot of sense for all of you to buy tickets till Friday.

The Sziget crew is expecting a similarly big crowd as last year, meanwhile the event that’s already among the biggest in Europe managed to grow in maximum capacity. “We expect that also this year we will host more than 400 000 fans throughout the whole week – said main organizer KarolyGerendai. “This year we managed to restructure the festival area in a way that it can conveniently host an even higher number of visitors, if needed” – he added.
The organizers did not only work on developing the infrastructural basis of Sziget, but also put in a big effort to provide a very colorful program. New program venues will appear, old venues will move to new areas and even the already famous visual experience of the festival will get one step higher.
“It’s a good indicator for what we’re actually working on to tell you the basic stats: we will have artists from 47 countries and already sold tickets to visitors from 89 countries. So, the Island of Freedom is truly an international place, maybe the most international spot on Earth during this week.” – Gerendai added.

Let me get my tickets now!

Where to stay at Sziget?

Sziget is a long event, which means you do need to make sure you stay at the right place and have a good rest once you take a temporary break from the party (not telling you if this is day or night, you are free to decide it). Luckily this is a huge festival that’s very nicely integrated in the big city that surrounds it. Besides onsite options at the festival, Budapest has also a lot to offer when it comes to easy-to-reach accommodations. Here’s an overview.

Choice nr. 1: Basic camping at Sziget

It’s an easy choice, actually an automatic one, as your festival pass will include the free camping possibility. Plenty of shady or sunny areas available at the island, but please note you definitely need to arrive early to get a shady one. We also offer camping sets (tent, mattress, blanket), so you can downsize your luggage.

Choice nr. 2: Upgrade campsites at Sziget

There are so many of them, but also many of them already sold out. You can still find tickets for the Bridge Camping, the Family Camping and the Caravan Camping. What they offer is a slightly better infrastructure (more toilets, showers, etc.) and also enhanced security.

Choice nr. 3: private accommodations via Airbnb

Flats, houses, private or shared rooms will definitely fit the idea of festival-holidays. Maybe that’s the perfect match, as you can find fair prices and also make the most of the obvious advantages, like sleeping in a bed, having your own kitchen, or meeting locals. Thanks to the newly introduced cooperation of Sziget and Airbnb there are now more nearby options surrounding the festival area than ever before. Click here to find your dream home at Sziget!
We advise you to check the night-time public transport options before you book your place and use a Citypass to have the freedom of movement all around the city.

Choice nr. 4: #festivalhotel powered by Telekom

Another new option that we‘re introducing this year. Don’t think of huge rooms, but a slightly higher comfort level compared to tents and what’s most important: right at the festival! The best way to get the needed rest and maximize your party hours. Still some available rooms from the 126 that we have in total. Click for info!

Choice nr. 5: Flexotel

A very limited offer for those who want to stay on the island and have the luxury of sleeping in a real bed at the same time. Not a cheap option, but definitely a comfortable one. Get me a Flexotel!

Choice nr. 6: Hotels or hostels in the city

You will know how to find these online, there are hundreds of them available in Budapest. Please make sure you choose one that is easy to reach also during the night and again we advise you to buy a Citypass for hassle-free access.

Line-up of MasterCard World Music Stage

This year you Szitizens can expect great music coming from all over the globe, bringing danceable tunes to the MasterCard World Music Stage. The internationally recognized program venue at the Island of Freedom will offer a wide range of acts, with a special focus on gypsy traditions this year. Don't forget: discounted 'Advance Round 1' tickets are only available until the end of April.

The world music stage at Sziget has become a hot spot for the genre in Hungary for 15 years now. Many icons of the scene have performed here and the program has not only reflected the new trends of world music, but also the taste of Szitizens. The MasterCard World Music Stage has now merged with the previously separately working Roma Tent, Afro-Latin Reggae Stage and the Hungaricum village stage, creating a hub for the loves of world music.
Sziget and Hungary has been a stronghold of the world music scene for decades and the organizing team is very proud of this mission. The fact that WOMEX, the World Music Expo will be hosted by Budapest in October 2015 is another important step towards the right direction. Music fans will now have the chance to party at the World Music Main Stage during Sziget and also come back to the Hungarian capital later this year to get a full taste of what’s hot in the genre. WOMEX Director, Alexander Walter, has added:
"Sziget is an exceptionally important player in our mission to cross cultural borders – it represents a community and an audience that does not think in strict genre categories but is eager to see the world and explore its diversity. We're very happy to bring WOMEX to the CEE region for the first time, and to bring the global music scene here. We want to help highlight the rich musical traditions and diversity of the region on the international stage."

The 2015 line-up will have a special emphasis on gypsy music coming from all over the world. Dhoad Gypsies from Rajasthan a collective of consummate, wise and spirited musicians, vocalists and dancers of all generations will arrive from India, while from Romania, Taraf de Haidouks, considered as the epitome of Gypsy music's fabulous vitality, will also hit the stage. The Goran Bregovic Wedding and Funeral Band's music marries sounds of a gypsy brass band with traditional Bulgarian polyphonies, those of an electric guitar and traditional percussion with a curious rock accent, while Boban Marković is without doubt the best-known Balkan trumpet player. Commencing their new concert season in Hungary, the world-renowned family brass band has achieved almost all a band can hope to achieve since its formation almost thirty years ago. The Egyptian Project assembles world-class musicians who layer tasteful electronic rhythms beneath virtuosic playing, the project of Jérôme Ettinger and the debut album called Ya Amar  is the most potent album to arise from this country since the political upheaval began. In addition, the Hungarian gypsy music scene will be represented by Romengo bringing the new Sound of Eastern European Gypsy music, and Parno Graszt playing traditional Gypsy music.
Besides the gypsy focus, classics from the world music world will also be present. As the Portugese fado-star, Mariza, a Mozambican whose soul was forged in the old Mouraria district of Lisbon. Sziget is proud to present the German brass band revolutionary LaBrassBanda and the most popular European klezmer band from London, She’Koyokh.  Afrorock beats will arrive from Mauritania by Noura Mint Seymali and drawing also inspiration from the roots of afrobeat, the Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble use their jazz experience to expand on Voodoo rhythms with a modern urban touch.
Imam Baildi started sampling and remixing Greek tunes of the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s. The group’s self titled first release reached number 7 and stayed 3 months in European World Music Charts. Roy Paci & Aretuska Allstars hatched a plan for one of the most sun-loving, fun-loving projects to hit the Italian music scene. The trademark of the Antwerp Gipsy-Ska Orchestra’s has always been a steamy brew of Eastern European gipsy music and Jamaican ska, seasoned with a rebellious spirit. Arriving from France, HK & Les Saltimbanks composed by hip-hop, accordion, violin and a shy desire to carry the worker society identity.
The “ethno-chaos” of Ukraine’s DakhaBrakha, a group that feels both intimately tied to their homeland, yet instantly compelling for international audience will bring unexpected, refreshingly novel vision of Eastern European roots music. Che Sudaka today are known as a flagship group of Mestizo Music around the globe, while La Chiva Gantiva will arrive with a blend of Afro-Colombian rhythms with other styles of music they love: rock, afrobeat and funk. Formed by writer Rina Durante in 1975, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino is regarded as Italy ’ s leading and longest-standing traditional music ensemble, hailing from the Salento, the heel of the Italian boot, in Puglia.
Strengthening the Hungarian performers, Besh o droM blends folk and contemporary instruments (including cymbalon and turntables, for instance), in styles ranging from jazz to world music while LB27 was formed behind the iron curtain in 1985 when a few guys realized that Hungarians are hungry for the Caribbean which was missing from the musical scene then. Pannonia Allstars Ska Orchestra (PASO) is the traditional ska ambassador to Hungary and one of the most energetic young bands with distinct Eastern European roots. Söndörgő is one of the most active and interesting world music groups in Hungary. Their aim is to foster and preserve Southern Slavic traditions of the Serbs and Croats as found in various settlements in Hungary. In addition, Szalonna és Bandája, will bring authentic Hungarian folk tunes to dance to!
To make the party never-ending: GypsySoundSystem, DJ Borzin, DJ Luca Vaga, DJ Lord Sassafras and DJ Tagada will supply the beats!
