János Bródy is one of the defining figures of Hungarian popular music: a singer, guitarist, songwriter, and lyricist whose work has shaped generations. Born in Budapest in 1946, he began his career in the 1960s with Illés, the legendary band often credited with helping create Hungarian-language beat and rock music, and later continued with Fonográf before building a successful solo career.
As a lyricist and songwriter, Bródy gave voice to an era. His songs combined melody, poetry, and subtle social commentary, becoming part of Hungary’s cultural memory. He also wrote lyrics for major performers such as Zsuzsa Koncz and contributed to landmark stage works, including the iconic Hungarian rock opera István, a király.
A Kossuth and Ferenc Liszt Prize-winning artist, Bródy’s career spans more than six decades. This concert is not simply a tribute to a beloved performer, but a musical journey through 80 years of life, art, and Hungarian song.
